Pasture Fundamentals Course - Dairy Training Limited

Develop strong foundations in pasture and feeding, with practical pasture assessment and allocation skills, and key principles you can use every day on farm.

In this course you'll learn to:

  • Become familiar with farming terminology related to pasture and feeding.

  • Recognise common pasture species and their growth stages.

  • Understand the key principles of optimising pasture growth and utilisation across the seasons.

  • Accurately estimate, measure, and record average pasture covers to build a feed wedge.

  • Practise putting up secure electric fences, showing awareness of cow requirements.

  • Understand feed management to avoid animal health risks.

Course details

Four in-person workshops held between milkings. Small class sizes with limited numbers.

Qualification: Earn the Fundamentals of Pasture Management and Feeding Dairy Cows Micro-credential (Level 3, 15 NZQA credits).

Course requirements

To be eligible for this course, you must be a New Zealand citizen or hold a New Zealand resident or work visa that allows you to study in New Zealand.

You will be required to complete an assessment to demonstrate your learning.

You must bring a laptop (ideally) or device to course days to access course materials, editable documents, and assessments.
